New ssh problem?

Ok, im wondering why my ip address on my phone changes everyday. Only the last number in the address is changing. So every time i ssh into it i have to type in the new ip and root and alpine everytime. Even though there is a 'saved' one already there. Actually i have 3 'saved' and its not connecting still. i have to, yet again, make another.

What is going on there?

Also i am wondering about reading somewhere that i should change the password. I dont remember where i saw this, prolly on this site in all my searches, but now cant find it. I'll keep looking. Perhaps this is why im having issues? Not sure how that would change the address in my phone...

I was gonna ssh to try and manage my photos. i wanted to mess around and see if i could move them around to different folders. i know how to move them out of my iphone, but wanted to see if i could move some in with having to open itunes.

My iPhone(s) did this occasionally as well. i had about 4 different ones for mine in WinSCP. it doesnt do it as often now, but generally has to deal with other devices also getting IP addresses. If things connect/reconnect they could be assigned a different IP by your router. For instance in my house, my iPhone, my wife's iPhone, our laptops, and our Wii all hit the router, some are up and down (actually, they are all on and off the wifi), each time the router will assign the address to it, not nescessarily the same ip to the same device each time. Well actually my wife's phone seems to always get the same, but it probably just likes her better than me :).

The password is for your root or mobile password. you can change those, and if you leave SSH enabled on your iPhone it is a good idea. i have changed mine, but i still usually leave SSH off on my phone until i get home (SBSettings = awsome). You can change it with Mobile Terminal. i think you type psword to change it.

Or if you install Rock app, and it sees that you have it still set to alpine it will prompt you to change it, which is the easiest method. Just dont forget what you use, that could be very problematic to recover.

Not sure what you mean on the photo's "move some in with having to open itunes".

Ah ok, that makes sense. 2 iphones, a PS3, and 2 laptops are in the house. I dont really mind having to retype the IP. i was mainly curious if i had some setting wrong.

And i was worried about connecting to itunes because i didnt want it to start updating to the new useless 3.1.3 patch:p I realize it wont so now i can add photos without worry.

Seems weird that a compay like Apple that is known for user-friendliness and bringing some of the most ground breaking computer operating systems to bear would make it so hard to manage pics in our iphones. I mean, you cant do it with just your phone alone. So it seems rediculous to me.

just use that...no ip needed..if you have usb ports on your computer you can do it...so assuming you can sync your idevice...you can use it ^_^

Forget over Usb. If you want to go over Wifi either try to set a static ip in your router or for your network pull a manual ip by going to Settings> Wifi> Click your wifi and go to manual with dhcp. Just fill everything out.

Ssh is over the internet Your talking about ssh over usb.

But wait. Is the program that Raf linked not a good one? I dont have a mac, but saw that program and downloaded it. opens right up fine for me. I havent really done anything yet but will soon. Seems like it is pretty cool...

The only time i will ever ssh is at home here when i have time to play around on it.

first...I only let 3 people call me Raf....it's Rafi thank you verry much haha....what I meant is it's so simple a cave man can do it...no there's no special way to sync...pretymuch the only people who couldn't use it is if they don't have usb ports on their comps and that way they can't sync to itunes..so as long as you are able to sync to itunes you can use it haha

hello ... i have a iphone 3GS 16 G and I did the jailbreak and did not go well ... I had to do the restoration and updated to version 3.1.3 ... I wonder if there is any way back to version 3.1.2 or a new version to unlock this new version? hope reply
