Lots of things have been said about if jailbreaking is illegal I want to know in a definant answer is it illegal

The short answer: No. as of right now it is not (despite Apple's claims). The only thing apple has a right to even claim it on is it modifies a few of thier files. but its a grey area right now, and why you are having issues finding your definate answer. But even if it were, it would likely not be an issue for you to jailbreak your device. Any issues would be directed at people like the Dev-Team, which makes the jailbreaks.

However using cracked ipa's, or hacked versions off paid appstore apps, is illeagal, but that doesnt stop most.
