Droid is out, and now the question we all want to know can be answered. Is the Verizon Droid better than the iPhone? This of course is a opinion, so can not be answered. Everyone must make this decision for themselves, but here are some specs from the Droid phone.
Droid Specs:
* Moto’s second Android device, the Verizon-bound “Tao” (or “Droid’ or “Codename: Sholes,” whatever it’s to be called) will be in stores on December 1st of this year.
* Tao, as I’ll call it for now, will launch with Android 2.0 “Eclair,” and will NOT feature the MOTOBLUR widget collection found on the Moto CLIQ.
* The phone will be powered by a OMAP3430 – 600 MHz ARM Cortex A8 with a PowerVR SGX 530 GPU and 430MHz C64x+ DSP + ISP (Image Signal Processor)
* Tao will be super-slim for a QWERTY slider, at just 13.7mm thick.
* Tao will also rock a giant 3.7″ touchscreen with 854 x 480 resolution (16:9 widescreen) at 16 million colors.
* The phone’s browser will support Flash.
* Tao will also feature a 5 MP camera with autofocus, dual LED flash and video capture. You’ll also get USB 2, a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, and both EV-DO and WiFI data.
* Memory-wise, you’ll get 16GB of onboard storage. But that’s not all – the device will come packaged with an 8GB microSD memory card, and will have a microSD expansion slot.

What Do You Think?
This phone has a LOT of cool features that to tell the truth iPhone dosen’t have. Some features are even better than the iPhone! We all agree that since the release of the iPhone it has had a lot of hype. I mean the iPhone/Jailbreak community would not even be around if it wasn’t for the iPhone! (Duh…) We all know, and love the iPhone. The question is though… Could this Droid phone overtake the iPhone? There’s already some applications for the Droid, but could they reach a point where it will beat the App Store? Only time will tell. What do you guys think? Answer in the comments below 
No…the droid will not beat the iphone. The droid is supposed to have 10,000 apps, 85,000 short of the appstore. iPhone FTW!

I think this phone has many great features. I can see myself using a lot of the features. I personally think it beats the iPhone because you do have to admit, this phone is sick!

As I look at this, if you don’t think the droid has a possibility of beating the iphone, your not looking at all the facts. Eventually…there will be a phone that outsells the iphone and popularity. Droid only has 10k apps? that’s alot for a new phone, and more will be created, it’s open-sourced and fully customizable, it will have more apps then the appstore if it works.
So yes, I think we’ll see this come close to matching the iphone in sales for awhile, but then seize only 1/4 of the iphones sales after a couple months.
it comes out friday the 6th of november. I hope it makes a killing. dont get me wrong iphone the shit for playing games but not good for a phone, till it gets on Verizon. Thats why i have an ipod 3g 64gb.

Exactly, who cares if it beats this version of the iPhone, the only thing that it will mean is that everyone will be stepping up the game to compete, where we the consumer benefit!
(Also, those 10k apps are increasing daily, and since Android uses Java I see many more developers hoping on the Android boat)
i say the app store sets the iphone apart from anything, but specks and hardwar wise, id have to say droid

I wrote this, and i didn’t mean to scare the community. iPhone is a great phone, we are still here for it, but i did want everyone to see that with the iPhone in mind developers are trying to beat it. That has yet to happen, but from the specs alone this phone looks awesome. Good enough to beat the iPhone? I don’t know….
The droid is going to be much better than the iPhone. MUCH BETTER.
People have said this about the Pre, G1, etc. all the way back to the day the iPhone was released. I could over take the iPhone but I think it’s just great advertisement from Verizon. Verizon wants you to think that it good enough, but the iPhone has build a base and that’ll be hard to take down.
Hardware wise the droid definitley beats the iphone. But the Iphone interface is really tough to beat and with the popularity of the app store and itunes it would be extremely hard to catch up software wise.
Wow, so many people on here saying it has nothing on the iphone. You all may be right, Apple has this mind control thing where YOU PAY to advertise for the iPhone. I love my iPod Touch, love all the apps for it but there Lots and LOTS of apps that have another similar app. I’m sure the Droid’s will have duplicate apps to. You all also need to remember that this is just ONE Droid phone. The Droid will have MANY other phones under it’s OS in the future. The Droid Does Ads are yes for the one phone, but is more about what the OS is capable of that Apple’s locked down iPhone is not. In that aspect, Droid Does beat out the iPhone.

i love my jailbroken iphone but i really want to see another phone that can beat it in features! apps arent a big issue for me. i just need my games, camera, video recorder, FLASH WEB BROWSER!, wifi, customizable menu and easy access to my phone calls. i really want to test this phone out. it does have potential! i hope this phone does knock the iphone off the cell phone pedestal and takes over for a little while until the next phone beats it.

well, the droid dus bost some good features that iophone dusnt have, but with the app store, the possibiltys of the iphone are endless. to me is just another smartphone created by someone else, that always says “the iphone killer” but we all know that the iphone is the best in the world and nothin can really match it.
the phone has great features and for many that dont fully understand the potential of the iphone, and apple, very stupid in its marketing, will eventaully make a phone that is 100x better and everyone who gets a DROID will feel stupid for getting one.

@ALEX MALONE, Verizon has more coverage then all phone companies. I cant even get 1 bar at my friends house. I have to go outside just to recive a call at one bar. AT@T also drops A LOT of my calls.

I think the Droid migth beat the iPhone but the Droid still has ways to go in its app store before it beats the iPhone but eventually it will beat the “iPhone”

hmm… wonder what Apple is going to drop when they start to loose market share to the Droid. I like my iPhone, but ATT’s coverage sucks. Verizon is a BIG reason to consider the Droid.

-I think the droid won´t beat the iphone and neather the iphone 3gs, because of tree reasons:
1) The motorola droid doesn´t have such a big appstore as iphone does
2)It will take time to the droid to take place in the market, thats not not the ipod problem.
3)The droid aplications won´t be so good as iphone and ipod apps are.

I am so glad the Droid has arrived. It has some great features that the iPhone simply does not.
The best part about the coming of the Droid is that it will light a fire under Steve Jobs and the folks over at Apple to add similar, if not superior functionality to the next generation of iPhones

I went by Verizon to check out the Droid this week. I have been thinking about ditching the iPhone for the better coverage Verizon offers over ATT. The first this I noticed about the Droid is I would destroy it. The functionality of the phone is great but the construction leaves a little to be desired. When the slider is closed I think it will get broken while riding around in someone’s back pocket. That is unless you are one of the people who where their pants around their knees.
To me it was very easy to twist the slider around leading me to think I would kill the phone in a short period of time. I am curious to see what people think after owning the phone and using it for a while.
As for being an iPhone killer… I dont think so. There are some things about the phone I don’t like. When viewing the net you have to use the – or + button to zoom in or our on the page. Takes a lot longer than compared to an iPhone. I am sure with a little practice I would find the keyboard more handy.
Just my opinion. I am sure there are those who believe the Driod is somehow going to create a paradigm shift in the world of hand held devices. I am still considering making the change to Verizon.

I think the Droid will compete with the iPhone, but it cannot beat the iPhone entirely.
THE DROID DESTROYS IPHONE…my oppinion i had the new 3gs and got the droid and it is heavier but it also feels like its very durable i dont think it would break easy…screen resolution so much better than iphone..ive had it since the day it came out and have now rooted it (jail broke) the roms and with the support of flash coming early next year def love it…iphone does have its ups…like being able to surf the web and talk on the phone. but droid in the future will destroy iphone and then when the droidkiller comes out it will kill both phones..
While I don’t have an iPhone, I love my iPod Touch, it’s basically the same things but without the phone capability, to be honest I would rather have the iPhone.
However due to the fact I have an iTouch, I own the Sony Ericsson W995 and I love having the best of both worlds.
Still… Apple products are the future… I can see it now… Apple hover cars… *sigh*
iPod is my preferred choice before iphone launch.
